does Slack think about me as much as I think about them, let's discuss

is your Slack user name all lowercase, full name or just your first name or a hybrid of all the above?

Hi, hello, good morning ☕️

It’s no surprise that I am huge Slack gal. I love tinkering in Slack, connecting and building integrations, testing out new apps, etc

Apparently it’s my brand

I mean, it’s literally in the name of this newsletter.

I’ve touched on favorite emojis but what about must-have Slack apps?

I gotchu. Let’s dive in.

Must-Have Slack Apps According To Me

Donut - great for onboarding folks and building CuLtUrE. Here's how Toast uses it.

Slido - create a knowledge base from the questions slash ideas your team shares in Slack. It’s sick af.

HeyTaco! - I am a HeyTaco! lifer and once wrote a blog about it

Range - sorry my product management side is showing but I love Range for instant updates a la standup style.

Stat Muse - is great for well, stats. Prove your point or fact check a Steph Curry stat or ask Stat Muse “hey who beat the Vikings 40 to 3 in 2022” (Answer: The Cowboys)

Zapier - this is technically vague but what I mean is Zapier is a great way to push notifications or tinker with your Slack in ways that help you do your job well. If you can dream it, you can Zap it (if that isn’t Zapier’s tagline it should be)

GreetBot - welcome new folks into your Slack community with a gif or slew of custom emojis. Make it cOOL.

Free Ways to Make Slack Dope

A Shoutout Channel - adding a shoutout channel is a great (free) way to make Slack way more fun and “human”. It’s a great place to shoutout or give kudos to your fellow teammate for a job well done, a kind moment, or anything worth celebrating! emojis are encouraged :hey-oh:

Pets and/or a Food Channel (sports channel is cool too) - literally anything that is not work-related. The more niche the better sometimes. Pet photos are always welcome on Slack IMO.

Slackbot - you can use Slackbot in the productive way (see: someone asking for 1394839248 time for a feature or case study) OR you can have some fun with it and have it onboard people in a fun way or autorespond with some witty comments. Note: I am not liable for you Slackbot autoresponses, you are your own person.

Custom Emojis - read my previous post about this and have fun. Make them relevant to your workspace. The more inside jokes the better tbh. Or just browse Slackmojis.

Emoji-based Polls - every company I have ever worked for has had the bare bones Simple Poll + Polly plan SO I PIVOT. Create random polls (or work-based polls) using emojis that is Free 99 that folks can "emoji react” with their answer.

Btw it’s way more fun when the emojis have zero to do with the options.

End Scene

If you can’t tell I really love setting up Slack in fun/productive/creative ways so if you ever need someone to assist, my DMs are open.

I’m also opening my books (I sound like a tattoo artist which is v cool) for early stage companies. Let’s work together, yeah?

PS: do you have a dope af WFH space and want to be a guest on My Favorite Things? Come come! 🤠

Okay bye!
