Slack Emojis and Sinus Colds

No Barrier to Entry is now "Don't Slack Me" yw

hi hello, welcome it’s been a minute hasn’t it.

I am no stranger to newsletters (or podcasts or TikTok accounts) but I decided to finally merge all my interests and unhinged content into one umbrella —a newsletter!

I give’th you “Don’t Slack Me” - a newsletter that promises to try to bring a smile to your face weekly, maybe bi-weekly (semi-monthly?). The world is our oyster, really.

First on the docket? Must-have custom Slack emojis (IMO).

Let’s dive in.

I recently started a new gig and the first order of business (aside from my profile photo… that’s a whole other post) was getting all the necessary emojis into Slack. You’d be surprised how many you rely on until they are not there…:sad-panda:

In no specific order, here are the must-have custom Slack emojis you need in your org. If I missed any lemme know bbs.

  1. :elmo-fire:

Elmo fire is a Slack must-have. Marketers, designers, engineers, sales, c-suite and everyone in between has and needs an :elmo-fire: in their repertoire. (I had to Google the spelling of this word.)

  2. :hey-oh:

A great way to end a sentence or ask a question in the least aggro way possible. I have been told it brings a smile to most faces but who’s to say.

  3. :sus:

Latest marketing email didn’t have tracking in it? Someone submitted product feedback without any data? Enter :sus:

  4. :got-em:

You landed a big prospect? Celebrate with a :got-em: or dunk on your co-worker when you get the last Loom license.

  5. :chefs-kiss:

Applicable for almost anything good. Did your coworker make a dope product demo? :chefs-kiss: Get your 100% registrant goal for a webinar? :chefs-kiss: Someone post a fomo-worthy photo of their lunch? :chefs-kiss:

  6. :more-you-know:

Anytime you learn knowledge you didn’t know or someone extra explains something you gotta hit em with a :more-you-know: also great for any “fun facts”

  7. :bows:

Did someone just compliment your work? A :bows: is in order.

  8. :approved:

Perfect for any team or when someone suggest we ditch the Zoom for some async Slack comms. :approved:

  9. :face-palm:

I mean, this is a given for any “oh geez” moment. For when you forget to add a meeting link to a Cal invite or for that prospect who ghosted you :face-palm:

  10. :awkward-monkey:

When you call someone out or you get called out yourself. :awkward-monkey: is a necessary react.

  11. :this:

Where would we be without some :this: its a great way to acknowledge/react to something without the passive aggro :thumbs-up:

Honorable Mentions

:salmon-skin-roll:
This is my personal favorite. Great for when you share news/updates. End it with a :salmon-skin-roll:

:clapping:
A round of applause for a job well done or landing a new logo. :clapping: is so versatile really.

:help-blob:
Overwhelmed? One-person team? :help-blob: comes in handy when you are sTrEsSeD.

:not-sure-if:
Did a competitor hit up your demo request form? Bug in Prod? :not-sure-if: is there for the cause.

This concludes my first newsletter under the new name. Thanks for being along for the ride. I promise many memes, emojis, random stories, and a dash of sports. This is supposed to be feel like you’re Slacking me, which, if you’ve worked with me you I hope this feels like that. If not, well, it’s only up from here.

Warriors in 7.

PS: sinus colds are the worst. Everyone wash their hands tysm.

Until next time,
