let's give 'em their flowers

the unofficial home page h1 awards

Nailing a really strong H1 (the heading text in the hero of your website) is really hard. You have 🎶one chance, one opportunity🎶 to explain what you do to a potential prospect (see: money) and most of the time H1s are extremely lackluster and/ or contains an immense amount of fillers words so when companies actually nail it we (me) are going to take a moment to give them their flowers.

Call the florist because we are here.

Witty H1s

Bubble's "we’re building the software to build all software" stopped me in my tracks because it definitely sums up what they do in an “oh snap” kind of way but the fun part is that this one is actually on their careers page NOT their home page. This is a great way to get potential employees stoked about the brand and the company vision. Also, it feels very Black Mirror*

*I have never seen an episode of Black Mirror. All my knowledge is sourced from TikTok, ty.

Straight to the point H1s

Streamlabs didn’t wait 3 days to text you, they went all in and got straight to it. Because sometimes saying it plainly is actually incredibly effective.

“All-in-one live streaming software” okay, I get it.

Also every time we see “all-in-one” used, you’re legally obligated to Buy a Coffee for your nearest Product Marketer.

Spicy and simple H1s

Okay, first off, shoutout to their branding team because the colors are chefs kiss. Okay back to the H1. Bolt, hi if you’re reading this can I high five whomstever is writing your copy?

“Shockingly simple checkout”

The H1 is delicious and simple but also dare I say, really friggin’ good? And don’t get me started on your CTA div before the footer. Sheesh. I’m a fan.

Bolt Home Page H1

Bolt CTA before the footer. FOR LIFE??! I mean take my money rn.

Tonkean, I gotta ask, who hurt you?

Because “Build processes people actually follow” is spicy and efficient.

Because if you’ve ever worked for any company ever, you know that processes are a dime a dozen so the spice of “actually follow” got me to chuckle and also do the “oh snap” Andy Dwyer face.

“Send It” H1s

Have you ever been in a meeting and someone just straight up says what the company does without any filler or “future-gen” talk? Well, enter Textio, because their H1 is literally that.

“Hire and retain a diverse team”

In this economy? Please.

Poems but make it H1s

Sometimes you gotta embrace your inner poet and drop an H1 that feels like it could be on a bumper sticker and or a b-side to User’s 8701. Either way, I am here for both.

Clockwise did just that with a poetically beautiful H1 that feels almost aspirational and makes me very relaxed. Which is sorta the point right? Their platform is about making your work calendar less elmo fire and more like those old Corona commercials where we just see the backs of the actors while they chill on the beach.

“Your work day, your way” Say less.

Bluevine tap into their Hallmark card bag with this one and I am into it.

“You built your business, we help it grow.”

It makes you feel like they’re rooting for you. This one not only conveys what they do very simply for their target audience, but it also feels billboard / bus shelter ready. We love when H1s have range!

Side note: I have not personally visited every bus shelter or billboard in the world so for all I know this is out there, somewhere.

Thonk Face H1s

Sometimes H1s really make you think and think hard where you feel like you NEED to learn more / sign up for a demo / download the app because you’re just Curious George at this point. At first glance, the Arist H1 is very, very vague where you’re thinking wtf do you do and then as you read on and scroll you get it and you’re somehow in.

“Learning that actually shifts behavior”

Is this AI? Is this a game? What does it all mean, Basil!?

End Scene.

Good H1s are hard to find. It’s like trying to find your shoe size (size 5.5Y) in anything that isn’t a Nike Dunk. There should be more of them but alias the trends are the trends.

Thanks for reading!

Until next time.
